Achieving Gender Balance to Enhance Organizational Effectiveness and Drive Business Growth”

Program Details

Women play a vital role in the operations of every organization. Despite their importance, there still remains a decisive gender imbalance, especially at upper management and executive levels, as well as in many career fields. Although the number of women in top management positions has increased by nearly 60 percent over the past decade, only 4.8 percent of top managerial positions were held by women, compared to 2.9 percent in 1986 (Fisher 1992).

For companies and organizations to be innovative and grow, they must change their strategies to engage women equally at all levels. Men and women must understand the value of recruiting, retaining and promoting women to maximize organizational effectiveness. In 2008, women make up about 48 percent of the labor force, yet full-time working women found themselves making only about 76 percent of what men earned (U.S. Department of Labor).

This Sharing Diversity™ Networking Forum will focus on the following topics:

  • Recruiting Women
  • Retaining, Developing and Mentoring Women Inside the Organization: The Role of Management to Help Break the Glass Ceiling
  • The Power of Women's Employee Resource Groups

Following the panel discussion, individual table discussions will be held so that recruiters, human resources and diversity professionals from across companies can meet together, network and share ideas about the successes and challenges that they have had at their organizations. Question cards will be provided to lead the discussion, and groups will be asked to report out to the larger group at the end of the meeting.
